Advanced PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Treatments at SEF!

It may seem hard to believe but the key to younger-looking skin is already in your own blood. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) facials are growing in popularity for a variety of reasons. We’ll take a look at the basics of PRP including its benefits, uses, and a little bit about what the actual treatment entails.

What is PRP?

PRP is a blood product that’s known for its regenerative properties. It can be used in a myriad of ways to promote healing and growth throughout the body. In addition to cosmetic purposes, PRP can be used to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, muscles, joints, and ligaments. PRP (Plasma Rich Platelets) is a technique we use where your own blood is drawn and and “spun” to remove red and white blood cells. This leaves a concentrate of stem cell containing platelets and growth factors. This technique can be used in combination with lasers and micro-needling to stimulate new collagen growth and rapidly improve your appearance. When combined with surgery and lasers it enhances the results and improves recovery time. It has also been proven to re-grow hair in both men and woman.

What are the benefits of PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma has natural regenerative capabilities that make it perfect for stimulating your skin cells to create youthful, radiant skin. One of the biggest benefits of PRP over other treatments or serums is that it’s autologous, meaning it can be found in the patient’s own blood. This is important because it eliminates the risk of allergic reactions because it’s already naturally occurring in your own blood. It can be used to treat wrinkles, fine lines, pigmentation issues, vascular lesions, rosacea and acne scarring.

We often use it in conjunction with Micro RF to tighten the skin, even to remove tattoos!

How long does a PRP procedure take?

PRP treatments are a true lunchtime procedure, taking around an hour. It’s minimally invasive and doesn’t require any downtime. Your results will slowly appear but continue to get even better for several months. PRP can safely be performed on all skin types and tones and is ideal for use with reaching all of these goals:

  • Reducing wrinkles
  • Plumping up sagging skin
  • Getting rid of deep creases
  • Improving one’s complexion
  • Diminishing acne scars

What happens during a PRP treatment?

PRP is injected beneath wrinkles and lines, into scars and stretch marks, and into areas that may have declined with age. The growth factors that absorb into the dermis after PRP injections draw in stem cells and other healing cells like cytokines. These cells work together to regenerate tissues that have become loose, wrinkled, and rough. Some patients prefer to combine PRP with dermal fillers or fat injections, depending on the look they’re hoping to achieve.
