At Schlessinger Eye & Face, we’re excited to provide a new treatment known as Liquid Gold. Liquid Gold combines microneedling with the delivery of various available “cocktails” through the epidermis into the dermis layer to effectively strengthen and improve the skin.
What is Liquid Gold?
Liquid Gold combines a microneedling device with various available serums or “cocktails.” The 0.25mm gold-plated needles penetrate the epidermis, the skin’s outer layer, and enter the dermis. The various serum/cocktail options are delivered as the needles make their full penetration. This delivers the various nutrients where the skin can actively use them, rather than hoping they are able to penetrate the epidermis, as happens with topical applications.
Liquid Gold is the first treatment to combine Botox into various cocktail mixtures. This enables the cocktail to not only nourish the skin, but to decrease pore size, oiliness and sweating.
What are the benefits of Liquid Gold Treatments?
Getting nutrients through the outer layer of the skin and into the dermis has always been the challenge with any skin care regimen. When applied topically, healing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, peptides, and growth factors have little chance of actually penetrating and making it into the dermis layer of the skin, the layer beneath the dermis. That’s where they can make a difference, not on the skin surface.
The Liquid Gold drug delivery device uses its gold-plated needles to penetrate through the epidermis into the dermis. As the needles penetrate, the serums are able to enter the dermis layer of the skin directly. Now your skin can make use of all the various ingredients.
What happens during a Liquid Gold treatment?
We first remove the sterile single-use Liquid Gold device from its packaging. Then, depending on which option you have chosen, we mix your cocktail/serum. This is then placed into the glass chamber of the Liquid Gold device. We close the chamber and shake the cocktail for about 30 seconds to thoroughly mix the ingredients.
Now we remove the protective cap and begin stamping the treatment areas, beginning at the forehead and working downward. The Liquid Gold device is pressed down gently until the middle valve elevates. This signals the release of the serum through the gold-plated needles. This is continued until the entire treatment area has been covered. Any serum that is on the face is then massaged in and the session is over.
How does this device compare to other devices?
The Liquid Gold delivery device is comparable to the newer pen-like microneedling devices, but it covers a much larger area with each stamping insertion. This makes for faster treatments with more consistent coverage. Those microneedling devices don’t deliver serum through their needles, however, so serum is applied topically with the hope of it penetrating through the punctures and entering the dermis layer of the skin. As you would assume, not much of the serum in this method makes it into the dermis where it would be the most effective. The Liquid Gold device penetrates the epidermis and then delivers the serums directly into the dermis.
When compared to microneedling rollers, the Liquid Gold device doesn’t scratch or lightly tear the punctures, as is common with rollers. Instead, the Liquid Gold device creates clean, direct punctures. Microneedling rollers also don’t deliver any serum into the skin.
